His head hurt, and it took him some time to remember where he was, at the hospital, he was run over by a car... again.
He didn’t open his eyes, he just wanted to lay there and think. He registered the sounds around him, the machines attached to him, beeping in different ways, and summing, but there was one other sound that wasn’t supposed to be there, a quiet sobbing next to him. He then realized that something or someone was squeezing his right hand, those hands were warm, and familiar.
Phil opened his eyes and turned his head to the right, to face a Dan crying into his pillow while squeezing his hand, he was alive, and he wasn’t hurt or injured, his Dan was fine.
“Why are you crying Daniel? You’re supposed to smile, dispose your dimples and glowing eyes” Phil said and gave a vague smile at the boy who’d now lifted his head and stared Phil in the eyes, he looked shocked, but happy at the same time.
“Y-you’re awake?” he stuttered quiet and his eyes filled with tears, they were puffy and red, he looked like he’d been crying a lot lately.
“You may not cry...” Phil said again and smiled at the person in this world, no the entire univers, who was most precious to him.
Dan’s eyes over floated and tears streamed down his cheeks while his face lid up in a giant smile, making his beautiful hassle brown eyes glow and showing his adorable dimples, he let out a little laugh, he looked happy, overfilled with joy.
“I love you Phil, don’t ever leave me again, promise me you won’t ever leave me, ever.” Dan said and stared Phil into the eyes, he looked desperate, which caused Phil to wonder, for how long had he been in coma?
Phil sent him another vague smile “I won’t leave you, even if I can’t be with you physical, I’ll always be there in spirit.” He whispered, Dan nodded and desperately he pressed his soft lips against Phil’s dry lips. As Dan pulled away he smiled at Phil, and Phil smiled back “I love you Dan, don’t ever forget that.” Dan nodded “I won’t forget.”
As he’d promised his mother, he called for her when Phil woke up, and she checked if everything was alright, which it were, Phil was a miracle, as the doctors described it. Dan still remembered it clearly when they told him that somebody who’d been hit like Phil, normally died, or ended up brain dead or with huge brain damages, but Phil didn’t, he survived without any permanent injuries. Phil was a miracle.
Phil looked worse this time than last time, his hair was hidden behind a huge bandage around his head, and they’d cut all his hair off, so it had to grow out again, in its natural brown colour. His left arm was broken, again, but his legs were fine, the worst was his internal damages.
Dan was given permission to stay with Phil over the night, mostly because he didn’t want to be alone, and Dan wouldn’t let him be alone again, never.
